SOUL ACHES Part 2

Getting to know the soul’s intertwining of the mind and heart the relationship between all of them gets even better. The learning brings some sense that soul is the complex of all our knowing and believing, a complete activity of the inner person, a representation of who we are on the inside with summation of our thoughts (mind) and feelings (heart). Fair to say then the soul extends from the heart to the brain; passion being located in the heart and reason and intelligence in the brain.

A verse by Kabeerji in Gurbani says: “There is no special place where the soul aches; where should I apply the ointment? I have searched the body, but I have not found such a place. He alone knows it, who feels the pain of such love; the arrows of the Lord’s devotional worship are so sharp!” SGGS Ang327

An elderly lady would daily take an auto to visit a Gurudwara in the vicinity. One day the ride was quite different. The auto driver while extending passenger courtesies also cared for the pedestrians and other motorists too. He gets out from his vehicle to help a blind man cross the road, quickly to return and drive on with a smile.

Getting down the lady said you are a good soul. But mataji I hardly go to temple like most so how could I be a good soul. The lady replied soul is a   seat of personality: individual’s will and emotion all lie in the soul. People going to religious institutions doing seva could still be disconnected with their soul. Now that you are here visit and take His blessings, you never know what learning’s can follow and went away. The auto driver visits the Gurudwara. At the Jodha Ghar (shoe counter) removing his shoes he sees a middle aged man doing shoe seva, each pair he took or gave touched them on his forehead with great humility.

Proceeding to bow to Guru Granth Sahebji the Kirtan being recited was "koee bolai raam raam koee khudhaae… Some call the Lord 'Ram, Ram', and some 'Khuda'. Some serve Him as 'Gusain', others as 'Allah'. He is the Cause of causes, and Generous. He showers His Grace and Mercy upon us. Some pilgrims bathe at sacred shrines, others go on Hajj to Mecca. Some do devotional worship, whilst others bow their heads in prayer. Some read the Vedas, and some the Koran. Some wear blue robes, and some wear white. Some call themselves Muslim, and some call themselves Hindu. Some yearn for paradise, and others long for heaven. Says Nanak, one who realizes the Hukam of God's Will, knows the secrets of his Lord Master."

Sitting for some time driver takes parshad and returns to his auto. Later as he was driving suddenly the vehicle ahead screeched to a halt and he did the same, but the vehicle behind hits his auto. An angry many steps out sees his car dented slaps the auto driver. Abusive in his argument the car driver slaps the auto driver again but the auto driver smiles back. I am hitting you and you are smiling. The auto driver replied I just learnt a truth about my Soul Connect and trying to figure out yours. You are the man who was at the Gurudwara doing shoe service displaying devotion, but how different are you now. What is your truth?

Embarrassed the car owner left, the auto driver remembering the elderly passenger’s words, sees reason why to get friendlier to the soul even more and drives on.
