From a state of sleep, waking up the next day is nothing short of being reborn. Sleep for some is a kind of bhakti and surely they conduct differently to experience so. Individuals connect to their divine with a mantra in Jaap or Simran. The state of subconscious is so well awakened in some souls that Simran becomes a continuous internal process remembering the divine no matter what the physical activity. You can sleep with HIS naam simran and awaken to those mantras, for such souls the sleeping hours too have been spent in HIS meditation.
Dream a series of thoughts, images and sensations occurring in a person's mind during sleep. Scientists and psychologists say dreams reveal critical aspects about the individual or rather describe them. Ordinary minds consider dreams to help them to process emotions and memories. There is more to dreams as one learns from innumerable different religious sakhis, how souls have connected with the divine and also received HIS blessings.
People strive for their divine’s darshan, through pictures/idol (Chitra darshan), through scripture readings (Bani darshan), through reciting kirtan (Shabad darshan). Another bigger state of blessing is to be seeing the divine in one’s dream (Swapna darshan).
A lot of us look at receiving while one is awake, for some awakening at times is losing out. Meera ji was once crying aloud all tried to console her but in vain. In sleep she was dreaming of Krishna and as she was to touch His feet she was awoken by a noise and her dream ended.
A devout of Guru Gobind Singh pundit Sumer used to do seva of giving milk to Guru saheb. One day he requested Guruji to bless him with Sehaj avastha which he grants to some Sikhs. Sehaj is a mystical state of a person who has accepted the Divines will (Hukam, Bhana, Raza). A highest state blessed by the divine where pain and suffering seems one. Guru Saheb responded it may take a few rebirths for you to achieve that state. Sumer was very sad and went away. He continued doing seva and kept asking at intervals. One night was hard on Sumer, he had a dream in which he saw being born and die multiple times. Scared and worried when in Gurus presence he shared his dream. Hearing him patiently Guru Saheb spoke, many times you asked me a favor, pleased with your seva last night in your dream you crossed over those janams to reach the sehaj avasta. There is much truth Lekha’s are written but with Guru’s kirpa usse Kaata bhi sakhte hain.
Those in true penance, seva, simran Guru Nadar helps overcome bad karmas lekha. When in doubt He communicates in some form. In grief over the loss of dear He eases you in a dream to see the person sitting in Gurus sangat. To dream your Divine in sleep or say his name in dream is indeed a Sehaj state. A verse in Gurbani by sant Kabir Ang1367 says “If someone utters the name of the lord even in dreams I would use my skin to make a shoe for his feet”.
The worldly drills may drift you apart from remembering Him always, but pure moments of connectivity as we sleep seeking Shamma, Shukrana, Nadar makes sleep a Bhakti and then you go on to receive more blessings waking up at Amritvela connecting with Divine in prayers.
To know our Divine, experiencing Him and communicating with Him is a realization that makes this gift of life worthy.
