Presence is a state or fact of existing, occurring or being present. Presence is like that pinch of salt being part of a dish to bring about a likable taste. Likewise presence is part of your expression in skill, personality, relations, emotion and faith. Once you realize the power of your presence one is just not anywhere. If your presence doesn’t make an impact then your absence won’t make a difference. Making a strong presence comes with clarity about who you are what you stand for and knowing what drives you.
A strong presence is said to translate to strong self-worth. The more consistent you are able to practice presence, the more often you'll notice this increased confidence, and self-worth. Investing in you is important because, without investing you may not see much advancement.
Executive presence is a crucial, learnable skill that sets exceptional leaders apart. Essentially executive presence is the ability to engage, align, inspire and motivate people take action. A leader with good presence can achieve better results, build stronger relationships, improve communication and gain trust of others.
Emotional presence is your expression with empathy, active listening, sharing experiences, open communication and importantly trust. Being present, showing appreciation & spending quality time together can cultivate a deeper emotional connection.
Presence in relationship is about being fully engaged and attentive. One’s priority in worldly relationships should be parents. With their presence care, comfort, learning of values, ethics one develops good character and behavior, helping one in managing the growing up in life better.
Presence with a life partner is setting aside distractions and focusing on the moment, paying attention to what your partner is saying, and actively listening to their thoughts and feelings, this helps feel intimacy and more connected to them.
Friends and other beings also get influenced by one’s presence. When you are told "I miss your presence" there is a specific focus about you on the other person with your physical or emotional presence. It suggests that it's not just the person in abstract, but the specific experience of being around them, feeling one’s energy, or enjoying one’s company that is missed.
The word presence in faith has been around since early 1600s which meant something as a spiritual or divine presence as a concept in religion, spirituality and theology, dealing with the ability of a deity to be present.
Gurbani expresses “sidak kar sijdaa man kar makhsood”… “Let sincere faith be your bowing in prayer & let the conquest of your mind be your objective in life. Wherever I look, there I see God’s Presence SGGS ANG84.
Absence of presence in faith is undoubtedly high as otherwise why do we see the world in disorder. We are at a religious place but our mental presence is far elsewhere. “O Nanak, you shall meet the True Guru, if your mind remains in His Presence”.
Those who wonder what praises of His one can chant and contemplate; it is deep within one’s mind and body one can behold His Presence. Making Him a friend and companion (Lord and Master) and know no other at all.
For a seat in his mansion “sach khaanaa sach painnaa sach tayk har naa-o…. “Let Truth be your food and let Truth be your clothes. Let your true support be the Name of the Lord. One who is so blessed receives it, and obtains a seat in the Mansion of the Lord’s Presence. SGGS Ang565
Our presence is often inactivity and non-participation one surely can do better.
