The expression being on your own simply means to be alone or by yourself. It carries connotations, "with little or no outside influence", "unassisted", or "without help", quite true for the worldly definition.
“Guru Nanak’s ji message of ‘Ik’ is about the oneness of the creator. ‘Ik’ is Him, ‘Ik’ is you, ‘Ik’ is all His creations; universe, mountain, skies, all living, creatures, air, water etc. Once you understand ‘Ik’ the state of mind knows God is looking for God and that is the condition when your mind is in company and talking to the inner one.
How can you ever be alone when you the ‘IK’, is having the ‘Ik’ (Creator) within oneself. This status of knowing ‘alone’ brings much character mental and moral qualities distinctive in any God fearing individuals. It brings humility the mother of all virtues with purity, charity and obedience in ones conduct. You realise Let go is not quitting, it is not giving up but simply managing better endings. You do not concentrate on one own advantage, pleasure or wellbeing without regard for others.
One begins to identify mistakes and corrects them reducing pain and suffering which bad karmas do attract. While correcting others, scriptures say do not approach a person about correction and punishments until you have approached God about the person. Love is the capacity to endlessly forgive but not knowing forgiveness is why many can’t forgive. Forgiveness is not about condoning the wrong doing, but managing mind to eliminate negativity, hatred, ego in conducting a fair punishment which often is done unfairly. The Lord spares none, His ways are much sterner and fairer making you accountable for every bad karmas. He too forgives should the realization and penance happen in one’s life or in the soul’s next living form what one gets as per their karmas.
Realization is to know the truth through oneself and not through others. Seeking God through self-realization brings along blessings of strength, power prosperity, wisdom, health and immortality. Your approach in managing yourself and helping yourself disqualifies unnecessary discriminations and also helps you in moments to ignore mistake of others and realize yours.
Living ‘alone’ makes it harder to find someone to blame. If one can disappear from the worldly hustle one is rewarded by finding oneself. We come alone, we die alone but afraid to be little alone. For many the inner ‘Ik” is compromised with worldly distractions, having fake friends around who act to love you but can easily doubt, bad mouth, isolate you in your hard times. Inside each one of us is a place where one can live moments all ‘alone’ and that’s where the springs are for you that will never dry. Finding company within yourself one never spends a day alone and finding love within oneself you will never have a lonely day.
Separating and isolating ‘IK’ the human beings are doing enough to harm, pollute damage and destroy Godly creations including their own kind. To some realization comes gradual to some a sudden understanding or comprehension of something and often the most painful realization leads to the most profound growth. Contentment becomes a realization that life is a gift and not a right and that Life begins when a person first realizes how soon it will end.
Knowing Alone listening to the ‘IK’ makes living life in tandem with all His other creations better. Among all livings, collaboration, combination, conjunction, cooperation, in league and partnership is expected highest from human beings.
