Pooja ceremony for a house warming event concluded and the host requested the family guru to speak a few words.
Congratulating the host and then addressing the audience kulguru said a common thing among all here is having a house. Let me share what makes a house a home and a home not just a place but a feeling. House is a structure a physical property for residential purpose. Home is about people belonging and living in that space.
Kulguru then makes reference to an experience he had with a family during his stay in their home. He noticed the young working parents leaving separately saying their good byes in a hurry. Their child enjoying his weekly school holiday, would go to the prayer room bow down and come out each time a parent left. When he did it the second time Kulguru asked dadaji the meaning of his actions. Dadaji explained the kid has seen his dada and dadiji doing this often, now when he is around he substitutes.
The practice in this home is for whatever and whenever you step outside the house one should seek divine’s blessings, conceptually taking Him along and when you return do so again in gratitude. The kid noticed today both parents missed going to the prayer room hence one of us has to substitute to seek blessings for their well-being.
Glancing at all guests Kulguru with conviction says ‘teachings and learning’s evoke ideas, emotions and reflections to create the magic each day making home not just a place but a feeling’.
Another experience Kulguru shared was standing outside his taxi on a sunny day while the taxi driver was replacing a flat tire. An elderly Sikh probably noticing his robe and the condition of the vehicle, insisted on taking him to his bungalow across until the car is ready to be driven.
Enjoying their kind hospitality and in between their conversation Kulguru shuts his eyes for a minute. On opening has a big smile and says blessed are homes that have the ‘treasure chest of living’ present in many forms. Homes like yours are not a place they become a feeling of invitation and welcome, where even the wise come to sing in praise and gratitude of the Creator, strengthening ones faith and seeking HIS continuous grace.
Looking at a room which carried a sign ‘Head of Family’ on one side of the door, kulguru said that must be the abode for Guru Granth Sahebji. But what fails my imagination is the purpose of the empty 6x3 feet tall frame on the other side of the door with only a nail in the centre. Singh sahib replied we are a large family it is expected sometimes there are differences among us. Whenever there are issues bothering a family member, a printed fabric from their room (the same in every room) is hung here. The entire family then sits in Guru Sahebs presence to amicably resolve those matters.
Kulguru picks a gift besides him and tells the host this is for you. It was the six feet long printed fabric replica of what the Sikh family had. Before gifting it to the hosts he displayed it to all.
The contents read “ Sweet Home In this house we are real, we make mistakes, we have fun, we are respectful, we say sorry, we always tell the truth, we give hugs, we speak kindly, we say thank you, we dream big, we keep our promises, we are patient, we do our best, we are grateful.
‘Waheguru Mehar Karo’ To be contd.
